Astrid Nordholt of Fraggletops© Studio in Combermere, Ontario, designs, knits and weaves a delightful selection of one-of-a-kind hats and garments. A textile artist with a flair for design and color, Astrid’s hats are a work of art; each an original creation with a distinctive ‘persona’ all its own. Astrid also delights in weaving beautiful fabrics from which she makes luxurious scarves, shrugs, shawls, jackets, vests, ponchos and thirsty tea towels.

Fraggletops© are hand knit hats for all ages. From newborn to adult, each is an original creation. No two hats are ever alike! Most of the children’s hats are made of washable acrylic. Others are made from hand-spun wool, alpaca, mohair, silk or bamboo. Some of the hats are lined with dyed or natural sheep’s wool locks. Colours and styles are exciting - sometimes wild - always attractive!

Astrid’s handwoven products include: Scarves, (woven from silk, wool, orlon, chenille, mohair, tencil) Ponchos, Jackets, Vests, Shrugs, Shawls, Tea Towels, Place Mats and Runners. All articles may be made to order in your choice of colour, fiber and design.

Don Jack creates a unique line of hand made wooden lamps and matching lampshades. These wonderful, rustic lamps depict wildlife, domestic animals, pets or birds. Each lamp is designed, customized and created by Don - carefully hand cut and finished from select pieces of wood. Don can custom design a lamp to your specifications, or you can choose a design from one of Don’s carefully created patterns.

LOCATION

Don’s workshop is located in his home at 915 First Street in Renfrew, Ontario, Canada. Don, along with his wife, Mary Ann, have a variety of pieces for sale at various arts and crafts shows throughout the Ottawa Valley and surrounding regions. You can also find them at the Cobden Farmer’s Market every Saturday morning from the end of May to Thanksgiving Weekend.

Marion Smyth of White Lake, Ontario, Canada is well known locally and internationally for her beautiful hand painted porcelain and china plus her wildlife paintings in acrylics and oils. Marion’s artwork includes delicate and realistic images of wildlife, domestic animals, pets and beautiful scenery. She also does intricate, detailed representations of flowers, fruits, vegetables and wildlife in both her decorative and utility china and poreclain plates, vases, vessels and cooking utensils.

Marion also practices the ancient needlework art of smocking and creates beautiful one-of-a-kind dresses for little girls. Her smocked dresses are work of art unto themselves!

‘Buttermilk Creek Farm Products’ is owned by Wallace and Isabelle Eady. Their farm is located on the outskirts of the Village of Cobden at 1882 Kolhsmith Road. Wallace specializes in selling quality products that are not easy to find locally. If you are looking for other hard-to-find products, Wallace will see what he can do to find exactly what you are looking for.

Buttermilk Creek’s products include an extensive line of fresh and frozen Meat, Fish, Chicken, Seafood, Chinese Food, Pizza, Hors D’Oeuvres, Honey and Maple Syrup. Orders are delivered, free of charge, right to your doorstep once a month. Wallace’s prices are excellent. (Discounts are offered for orders of $100 or more with double discounts up to 12 percent for National Saving Club Members.)

Pick-Up at the farm can be arranged by calling 613.646.7664. (Wallace and Isabelle are glad to receive orders anytime, but Wallce is hard to get, so the times suggested are if the customer wishes to speak with Wallace personally.) You can also find the Buttermilk Creek products at the Cobden Farmer’s Market Saturday mornings.

(Those who prefer to pick things up at the farm have learned the wisdom of calling ahead.)

Hummingbird Weaving Studio, Barry’s Bay

Shirley Murphy, owner of the Hummingbird Weaving Studio in Barry’s Bay, Ontario, Canada, creates beautiful, hand-woven articles of clothing, elegant table linens and useful household items such as place-mats, tea towels and rugs. Shirley has been weaving for 16 years. She was awarded an Ontario Hand Weavers and Spinners Scholarship in 1997 and studied in Georgetown under the tutelage of a master weaver.

Each hand made, woven garment is created with love and a passion for fiber and color. All of Shirley’s handwoven items carry the message “someone cares”. Shirley has had several exhibitions. She also conducts weaving classes for children and adults in her Barry’s Bay studio.
